Uzbekistan. Aral 3Posted by IT (Sydney, Australia) on 11 March 2008 in Miscellaneous. 'The shrinkage of the Aral Sea ranks as one of the world's greatest man-made environmental disasters.' 'As the levels of the Aral Sea receeded, frantic attempts were made to keep access to the port of Moynaq viable. Canals were dredged and dug so the fishing boats would be able to move back and forth to port. Dayly the local fishermen would slowly navigate their ships down the narrow, brackish passageways. "Chasing the sea," it was called. It must have been an awful day when they realised they could chase no more. '
